Making Headway: Construction at HUB

By November 16, 2018News

HUB in Port Coquitlam is rapidly taking shape. Our crew is working hard on site, and it’s easy to tell that we’ve come a long way since our last groundbreaking update.

Earlier in October we started building the structural footings, which is the first important stage of construction. Made of concrete with steel reinforcement and poured into a formwork, the footings ensure that the load of a building is spread evenly over the ground underneath it, supporting the structure and preventing settling.

As these footings were being constructed, the team followed behind in sequence building the perimeter retaining walls to support the structure around the recessed loading dock areas. This step is still underway. Meanwhile, a separate team is also busy excavating and installing the site sanitary and storm water systems.

Once these steps are complete, the team will begin the next phase of construction, pouring the reinforced concrete slab of the building floor over three separate stages. This slab will be used to form and pour additional concrete panels which will become the walls of the building. Once this is done, the massive concrete panels will be tilted and the building will quickly spring up into place, so watch for more exciting updates and major changes onsite!
